Wyndham Hotels & Resorts opens four new Bangkok Staycation hotels!

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (WHR) would like to invite you to join them as they present four new hotels in Bangkok. So came a wonderful opportunity to staycation in Bangkok’s latest hotels. I am beyond excited to see life returning to normal in Bangkok and to witness firsthand business enthusiasm in Thailand’s position as a world-class tourism destination.

The official debut of Wyndham Bangkok Queen Convention Centre,  Wyndham Garden Bangkok Sukhumvit 42, Ramada By Wyndham Bangkok Sukhumvit 87 and Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Bangkok Sukhumvit 48 come at a time when life and hope are returning to the city.

By any standards opening four hotels, operated on behalf of owners Siamese Asset, is a stand-up and take note moment that confidence is returning to Bangkok’s hotel industry. It certainly sheds light on how Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is viewing and backing recovery in the region.

The Covid impact on Bangkok’s hotel industry

During the past two years, I’ve stayed at over 160 hotels and resorts across the Kingdom of Thailand. My Bangkok staycations were particularly memorable, given the decimating impact of the pandemic.

I’ll never forget Easter 2020 driving up the swirly drive of Anantara Siam Bangkok and asking where to park the car? Only to be told, in a city deathly quiet, with all international airports closed, ‘leave it at the front door, there is no one else coming!’

Or, the haunting night-time view of The Peninsula Bangkok. A handful of the empty hotel rooms illuminated in the shape of a poignant love heart which shone forth from the darkened hotel tower over a silent Chao Praya River.

Bangkok Tourism is returning

In 2019 Thailand welcomed nearly 40 million international arrivals, the majority starting their trips in Bangkok. The pandemic wiped out tourism which accounted for close to one-fifth of the GDP of Thailand.

Thailand has a long road to recovery. However, as I head off to staycation with Wyndham, I’m pleased to see many more people on the streets. I’m even half chuffed to sit in a traffic jam on Sukhumvit Road. I do wonder why I did not take the BTS which conveniently drops practically on the doorsteps of two of these hotels.

The recent easing of entry restrictions into Thailand and the removal of a Covid PCR test on arrival plus talk of moving from pandemic to endemic status, are hoped to further bolster tourism to the region.

Bangkok business is returning

Bangkok businesses are returning to being office-based after 18 months of home working mandates. Business meetings in person and corporate entertaining with overseas suppliers are also cautiously returning. Conferences and special events are back in the planning phase.

I can’t but help to think that Wyndham’s timing is spot on.

Nothing has been predictable over the past two years, certainly not within the hospitality industry but surely the four Wyndham openings and business optimism is reason to be cheerful in town?  We may not quite have stability for the hospitality sector, but we certainly have more hope on the horizon than for many a month.

Staycationing with Wyndham

My media invitation included two nights of accommodation but I took the opportunity to staycation in each of the hotels to really get the chance to appreciate their individual offerings.

THE WYNDHAM FULL LIVING EXPERIENCE

Each hotel offers guests much more than a bed for the night. The room and suites generally offer some form of cooking facility from a microwave to a full kitchenette. At the latter, we find electric hobs supplied with wok and pans along with kitchen utensils. All the rooms except the Ramada Plaza had a dining table and washing machines

BRANDED RESIDENCES

All hotels also offer long-stay residence options which Wyndham calls their Branded Residences. Some buildings were multi-use properties where long-stay guests and hotel guests reside in the same building, others such as Ramada Plaza have two separate buildings and facilities.

The hotels often offer guests additional multi-functional spaces from guest lounges, meeting spaces and co-kitchens offering a space with cooking or BBQ facilities.

Each of the properties offers a rooftop outdoor terrace space, and they all enjoy fabulous views across the brilliant Bangkok skyline. The other aspect which I found both outstanding and charming in a Bangkok hotel was the thought and effort that had gone into each hotel’s green spaces.

Restaurants

You will see that each hotel offers a different kind of in-house dining experience. From Thai to Japanese, Italian and Vietnamese.

Kafeology

Kafeology Coffee Shop

Kafeology can be found here and has burst onto Bangkok’s ever-developing coffee culture with five branches across Bangkok.

An attractive stay for the budget-conscious looking for a fab new hotel. The large rooms, and service-orientated staff, are conveniently placed for On Nut BTS and BITEC. Kafeology and Morning Glory restaurant are drawcards in their own right.

Overall experience

I liked the home-away-from-home experience here. On Nut, is not an area of Bangkok I know well, it was fun for a couple of days exploring and with great BTS access. The hotel appeals to a wide range of people suitable for both leisure and business travellers.

For those of us who love hotel wows, you will enjoy the city skyline view from the rooftop infinity pool, Falcon Secret Bar, and the charming Marie Guimar restaurant is pretty spectacular. I found the spacious rooms had everything needed for a great staycation.

Wyndham Bangkok Queen Convention Centre

Overall experience

Wyndham Bangkok Queen Convention Centre was opened in December 2021 and is already impressing those looking for a smart place to stay. I really enjoyed this hotel and my prediction is that it will be a hotel that will be talked about big time, once word gets out.

Between the revamped Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre (QSNCC) and the new Benjakitti Forest Park, this area is turning into the place to be!

Formally known as Siamese Exclusive 42 this hotel is a great choice for those looking for a home away from home in the Ekkamai/ Thong Lor area of Bangkok. Those rooftop views and gardens are spectacular. The rooms have all you need and more for a great stay and the beds are really comfy.
