🌐 This week’s Getaway theme for #traveltribeunite is has got me thinking of all people in the Middle East whose lives have been turned upside down this week and are unable to getaway.
🌐 It is especially close to home with friends and family in the region. 🫶
✈️ The morning before much of the international airspace was closed in the region, I slipped back into London from Australia, blissfully unaware in doing so, of the huge impact on global travel about to happen…
🌐 I’m thinking of all those looking up into the skies and instead of seeing planes and dreaming they could get away, are seeing warplanes, drones, and missiles. 🤍
🌐 We have lived most of our careers as Expats so I’m also thinking of the Expats affected in the region…
✈️ I remember all to well when COVID struck and I’d booked the last flight out of Bangkok to Australia in March 2020, and Mr Wren told me he couldn’t leave the team, but I should go to be with the kids if I wanted….
🌐 Big decisions & choices, we stayed and didn’t get back home to Australia until December 2022.

Our recent 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 holiday was the best. Here’s what made it great…
✨ Our trip was fabulously planned by our NZ friends and Auckland residents ( we spend a lot of the year travelling and it was so lovely for someone else to do the planning and organising!)
✨𝟭𝟯 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀, 𝗮 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 & 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱
✨𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:
Waiheke island ~> Queenstown ~> Waneka
𝘗𝘭𝘶𝘴 one night in Auckland.
✈️ Melbourne -> 𝗔𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱
⛴️ Ferry to 𝗪𝗮𝗶𝗵𝗲𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱
✈️ Auckland -> 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻
🚗Drive to 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗸𝗮
✈️ Queenstown to Melbourne
✨ A perfect combo of exploring & exercise, hiking & biking, lovely meals out, visiting wineries and enjoying this glorious country!

We’re in 𝗔𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 where there is nowhere better than the “𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀” impresses than from the 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗸𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆!
From here the skyline of New Zealand’s largest and most diverse city, feels less crowded than my home city of Melbourne Australia.
I haven’t visited Auckland for nearly 10 years and it feels refreshingly recognisable. Known and loved for its harbor views, Māori culture & those volcanic landscapes, this city is built atop more than 50 extinct volcanoes …there is much to explore. 👣
One of the best ways to get a panoramic views of the skyline, harbors and surrounding islands is from the top of 𝗔𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱’𝘀 𝗦𝗸𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿.🌄
The architecture of the old and new seems to sit well together. Auckland is one of those captivating cities I always feel – I could easily live here!
… we are so happy to be back.

☕️But first coffee shops from around the globe! ☕️
Life has never quite been the same since I gave up dairy and with it a skinny cappuccino …a long black coffee is not quite as exciting, but hey ho!

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 NZ 🏃♀️
This weekend, I completed my 𝟱𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗿𝘂𝗻 and being a 𝘞𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘞𝘳𝘦𝘯 this was planned for 𝗔𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗭𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 … I love being a Parkrun tourist a new Parkrun country is a bonus. 💪
My 50 Parkruns have been at 22 locations in the UK, Australia and New Zealand 🇦🇺 🇳🇿🇬🇧
✨𝘔𝘦𝘨𝘢 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘳𝘶𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘭𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘮𝘦.✨
This has not been without its challenges especially as last year I was not in the best health but I use Parkrun as a good measure of my health and my wellness journey. 🏥
In recent weeks I’ve run in the rain, in the freezing cold and in mega hot conditions… 🥶🌧️🥵
Parkrun is a free event held every Saturday for all abilities, walking is encouraged and there is a Tail Walker who brings up the rear, so no one comes last.
I am not much of a runner, the furthest I have ever achieved was at Sydney’s 𝘊𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘧 14 km and I once ran 10 kms at the Melbourne Marathon.
I love that I can attend with my friends & family and whilst we all finish at different times it is something we can all do. ❤️😍❤️
Parkrun is worldwide but not global so it has taken me three years to join 50 Parkruns 🌐
I ran a personal Parkrun best. I’m 16 minutes faster and 20 kgs lighter than I was 13 months ago. I feel fitter than I have done for a long time. 💪

We took a ride from the brand-new Anzac Station close to the Shrine of Remembrance & Royal Botanic Gardens to Town Hall in the CBD.
These new underground stations are beautifully designed – we loved the art work.
Under St Kilda Road, is Melbourne’s first tram-to-train interchange, what a great addition to our city travels.
Bravo to all those involved on this massive project that’s been many years in the making and gives us a beautiful way to enjoy our journeys through this amazing city.
