A heavenly Afternoon Tea at Devas’ Lounge InterContinental Phuket Resort

The InterContinental Phuket Resort is a serene, majestic, and harmonious resort. So it’s no surprise to me that it offers the same experience with its new Signature Afternoon Tea.

Nestled between the mountains and the calm waters of the Andaman Sea, on Kamala Beach, you’ll find the luxurious Devas’ Lounge. The new in-place for perfect pastries and where your heavenly afternoon tea awaits.

Time to frock up ladies, this is not to be missed!

InterContinental Phuket Resort IS heavenly

The InterContinental Phuket Resort has the biggest hotel reception ‘wow’ on the island.

The resort was designed to represent heaven according to ancient Buddhist-inspired literature, the theme runs throughout the hotel, and central to this is their dazzling white pavilion.

The Devas’ Lounge is a sophisticated hangout and a perfect place to meet friends. Just remember to tell them it’s located mountainside to the right of the hotel’s main lobby entrance, or they will be like my friend Nadine, at the beach and enjoying a full tour of the resort before they join you!

Nadine arrives to find me admiring all the little bird statues in the lobby representing the link between earth and heaven. That’s not all I was loving, have you seen the cakes on display? Talk about divine.

The bright, light and airy lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the garden, lotus ponds, and the striking Sawan pavilion. The ambiance is calm, well apart from our excited chatter and before our sugar high kicks in.

My tip for you is to ask for a table by the windows and sit facing their iconic pavilion. There is nothing nicer than pouring your tea with this elegant view.

What makes a fabulous afternoon tea?

In my mind, there are three components of a fabulous afternoon tea experience.  You need a wow of a venue, delectable dining, and great company. It’s a tick, tick, and tick from me for this!

Many thanks to Nadine for joining me. Nadine, like me, is a Phuket resident and we both agree the new Devas’ Lounge Afternoon Tea is a welcome addition to island life.

To me, the whole point of afternoon tea is to create the space in your life for the conversation to be as free-flowing as the tea. As we natter away, we decided this would make a wonderful gift for a friend or loved one.

Tea and drink choices

I’m a bit of an afternoon tea fanatic, so the tea is important too…

Monsoon Tea is used and is renowned as exceptional in the Thai tea world. It’s a wild and free-grown tea from the hills of Northern Thailand which offers some unique choices. Jungle Black Tea, Lychee Green Tea, or Devas’ Mountain Breeze Oolong are a far cry from my usual choices starting with English Breakfast or even Tetley’s PG tips.

Nadine is more an Irish Breakfast tea sort of a girl, Decision, decisions … It’s an impossible choice so we order a pot of each.

The tea comes ready prepared, measured to perfection in tea bags. So there is no need to have the faff of using a tea strainer, a usual part of a classic afternoon tea palaver.

For the coffee lover, you will be happy to note your choice is cold-brew coffee sustainably sourced from the mountainside foothills of northern Thailand.

Now of course if you are after something extra extravagant, go with champagne. It’s never a bad idea!

Signature Afternoon Tea

Our afternoon tea is charmingly presented in a birdcage that takes two to carry and hangs beside you full of tempting treats.

It takes two to carry the afternoon tea!

We loved the fabulous blend of savoury and sweet options. Chef has put his own mark on things and there is not a scone in sight. Instead, you will find classy alternatives with lobster and Beluga caviar, slow-cooked wagyu cheek, truffle, and five sweet options from tarts, to Philadelphia cheesecake and Kyoto opera cake.

What a fabulous array for Afternoon Tea

My favourite was the melt on the mouth and oh-so-pretty Rose Wine Sabayon Cream summer berry tart.

Each course is exquisitely prepared and presented as a culinary work of art.

Devas’ Lounge also offers a tempting range of cakes and pastries sold as individual servings, making it a great place to rendezvous with friends.

The treats started at under 100THB, we were impressed by the competitive pricing. A quick google search before I arrive sees fans raving about the Yuzu croissant and the chocolate hazelnut cake.

To be enjoyed by all generations

I was first introduced to the delights of Afternoon Tea by my Grandmother who would invite me to a grand hotel in London every time I visited.

This tradition has been embedded in our family gatherings, and the one thing I have found is that afternoon tea is an experience that suits all ages. Looking around we can see lovers, we can see friends, we see special celebrations and we see an everyday catch up.

The most important part to me is the opportunity to put down our phones and connect or reconnect with each other. Oh, it’s a beautiful thing the power of a cuppa.

Come hungry!

Oh yes, you’d better come hungry and even if you do, you will probably find there are plenty of left-overs to leave with a doggy bag.

As this is the InterContinental of course is not the usual brown paper bag doggy bag, it is a whopping humungous elegant cardboard cake stand that is going to so impress anyone back home, even if you have eaten everything, and it only contains one cake!

Sawan (means heaven in Thai) Pavilion

Before we left, we were determined to have a closer look at the Sawan pavilion, which houses the InterContinental Sati Spa and Wellness Centre. Very nice is all I can say!

It represents the Buddhist cosmology which has Mount Sumeru (the pavilion) as the centre of the universe with six levels of heavens above, seven mountains, and four oceans surrounding it.

Do allow time in your Afternoon Tea experience for a wander here. You will definitely need to walk off your tea!

Who can resist a photo session here, certainly not us two after a heavenly afternoon out!

Thank you to the InterContinental Phuket Resort for your kind invitation to sample your new Afternoon Tea at Devas’ Lounge. It was absolutely heavenly and we can’t wait to return with friends and family.

I hope you have enjoyed this post. Who else is a lover of  Afternoon Tea? Do you have afternoon tea daily or is it only for special occasions?  Whenever I visit Mum in the UK we still stop for afternoon tea (and usually homemade) cake at 4 pm daily! It is such a lovely part of the day. I cherish this tradition.
