We’re having a grand old time in London.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Except the weather has not been very kind.<\/span><\/div>\n
‘It’s fresh Ma’am’<\/i> <\/span><\/div>\n
the hotel doormen with the black bowler hats would tell me <\/span>every morning.<\/span><\/div>\n
‘Fresh!!!! It’s friggin freezing’<\/i> this Aussie <\/span>would reply. <\/span><\/div>\n
There is just something about a man in a bowler hat <\/span><\/div>\n
that brings out the inner Cockney mongrel in me.<\/span><\/div>\n
‘Yes Ma’am!’<\/i> <\/span>they would reply. <\/span><\/div>\n
They are recruited for their politeness.<\/span><\/div>\n
They win.<\/span><\/div>\n

Yesterday Mr Wren and I found ourselves with a rare London afternoon to ourselves. We were walking along the Embankment, on our way to Westminster, to see the Prime Minister. <\/span>Somehow it felt important to go and find out what on earth was going on with this Brexit EU referendum that everyone is talking about. When the heavens opened.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
We were torn, one one hand we were only a hop, skip and a jump from Downing Street, <\/span>on the other hand we were getting wet, real wet. Faced with the same dilemma that the population of Great Britain has on June 23rd <\/span>of should we stay, or should we go? Mr Wren takes charge. ‘C’mon let’s get a coffee!<\/i>‘ <\/span>He spots a Costa Coffee and a Starbucks <\/span>and starts making a bee-line towards them. <\/span>‘<\/span>No Wait!’ <\/i>I yell, as a loud clap of thunder cracks overhead.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/b><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n
‘Let’s do tea!’<\/b><\/span><\/i><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And so, that is how we end up like drowned rats at the Savoy Hotel.<\/span><\/div>\n
A bolt-hole from the rain.<\/span><\/div>\n
This time we are greeted by men in top coats and tails.<\/span><\/div>\n
Again all terribly, terribly polite.<\/span><\/div>\n
‘Will you be joining us today Sir, Ma’am?’<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
Clearly there was some doubt as to whether we were in the right place…<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We were lucky that they could accommodate us for our spontaneous afternoon tea for two. <\/span>We’re shown to the most gorgeous table, a pianist plays in the corner. I do love London.<\/span><\/div>\n
I can see <\/span>Mr Wren thinking at<\/span> that this last minute availability<\/span><\/div>\n
is all rather unfortunate, especially when he is given the menu to find<\/span><\/div>\n
 Afternoon Tea at the Savoy is fifty quid.<\/span><\/div>\n
Each!<\/span><\/div>\n

‘Are you celebrating a special occasion today’<\/i>  they ask?<\/span><\/div>\n
‘Yes’, Mr Wren mutters: <\/span><\/div>\n

<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
‘…the fact that my wife is going to be nice to me <\/b><\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
for the rest of my life after this!’<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
