The Sukhothai Bangkok <\/strong>is one of my much-loved Bangkok hotels. I have such happy memories celebrating special occasions with their Champagne Sunday Brunch.<\/strong> Or from being on a massive sugar high from their legendary Chocolate Buffet.<\/strong> We’ve delighted in the finest of dining, enjoying the Chef’s tasting menu at Celadon<\/strong> restaurant. We count this as one of our all-time best Bangkok gastro experiences.<\/p>\n

I am clearly not alone with this admiration. We note The Sukhothai Bangkok is one of only two Thai hotels to appear in the prestigious Top 100 Hotels in the World in 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"I have been waiting, waiting, waiting, to include this hotel on my ever-growing list of Bangkok and Thailand Staycations.<\/a> The hotel has recently reopened post-COVID and is offering a fabulous staycation package for Thai residents.<\/p>\n

So we thought we’d check it out. And why not?<\/p>\n

If COVID has taught us anything, it is to enjoy the best things in life whilst we can.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

OUR ARRIVAL<\/strong><\/p>\n

As you pull beyond the security post on South Sathon Road, you can feel yourself begin to unwind. There is something wonderfully calming with what they offer here as an ‘ultimate urban oasis.’<\/em><\/p>\n

A long driveaway leads past a lotus pond with humungous bowl-shaped leaves amidst two gorgeous Thai salas.\u00a0 It’s green and lush. The low-rise Sukhothai Bangkok is almost a novelty these days, in a city of ever-increasing high-rise hotels and apartments.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The grounds are as immaculately dressed, as the staff who great you. It is assumed we will take the valet car option. As it is, that we won’t carry our bags. Mr and Mrs Independent Wren split. Him to park the car, me to check-in with at least one bag!<\/p>\n

I may be able to mix with the best this weekend, but I must not get carried away. Next weekend I will be back staying with a local Thai family. It is always our intention to see ALL of Thailand.<\/p>\n

However, in the meantime bring on the bubbles!<\/p>\n

CHECK-IN<\/strong><\/p>\n

Check-in these days just happens to be at the 6th floor Club Lounge reception. As they return post-COVID, it is only the Clubroom Wing that is currently open.<\/p>\n

It is slightly disappointing that the main building and the public rooms remain waiting for the return of International guests, as I do remember the demur grandeur of this area. Such are the tough operational decisions that hotels are being forced to make in the current economic climate. However, one look at our Clubroom overlooking the swimming pool and all is forgiven.<\/p>\n

They’ve done their research. We’re remembered from previous visits and we feel like returning family. When Mildy, Club Floor Manager says she is a reader of Little Wandering Wren<\/em>, well she’s a friend for life!<\/p>\n

What we loved about The Sukhothai Bangkok<\/h6>\n

It’s that effortless style and glamour that comes with a hotel that knows it simply delivers one of the most alluring Bangkok staycations in town at present.<\/p>\n

THE GROUNDS:<\/p>\n

Definitely an oasis in Bangkok – they have\u00a0six acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and water ponds in bustling Bangkok. Should you need more, it is a short walk to Lumpini Park!<\/span><\/p>\n

THE ROOMS<\/span><\/p>\n

The bedroom is not wow in terms of styling, but they are beautifully appointed and have that air of understated elegance.<\/p>\n

The bathroom is however totally shiny, shiny and I’m in love with it!<\/p>\n

Look a little closer and you will see a grander appeal. The beauty is in the subtle details.\u00a0 The lotus flowers are exquisite. The Nespresso coffee machine has biodegradable coffee pods, there is a Harman-Kardon audio system because you will want your music as perfect as everything else.<\/p>\n

The soft, plush and luxurious bathrobes, are the softest of any of our stays.\u00a0 The deep-soaking bath with the little pot of bath salts.<\/p>\n

It is oh so tempting, to have a bath, put on the bathrobe, <\/strong><\/em>grab a book, <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

play the music and say see you Sunday!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

All of this is apparent before you know the soft duck down duvet, perfect pillows and dream well mattress that means you have the best nights sleep ever.<\/p>\n

THE FINE DINING<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our staycation package offered us the chance to check the award-winning La Scala Restaurant.<\/strong><\/span> Unlike staycation packages offered at Siam Kempinski Bangkok<\/a> which offers access to the full a la carte menu, this is a special three-course set menu. La Scala is<\/span> featured in the Michelin guide as one of the best Italian restaurants in Bangkok. The three-course set menu includes tea and coffee.<\/span><\/p>\n

Breakfast is offered either in your room or in the Sukhothai Club Lounge. Sure you don’t get the wow of the Chao Praya river location as you do at The Peninsula Bangkok, Praya Palazzo or Shangri-La Bangkok<\/a> but you can’t fault the excellent breakfast choices, nor the service!<\/span><\/p>\n

Health and WellBeing:<\/span><\/strong><\/h6>\n

The gym is enormous, the ladies change rooms include a jacuzzi, steam room and the sauna has a TV screen in it with Star Trek playing!<\/p>\n

The swimming pool is one of the biggest we’ve seen in Bangkok. Iced water and fresh pool towels appear out of nowhere.<\/p>\n

If you stay includes a Mon-Friday you can currently have a 60 minute Thai Massage for THB 600 and check out their other special offers.<\/span><\/p>\n

THE STAFF<\/strong><\/p>\n

I doubt you’ll find a better trained or friendlier team than at The Sukhothai Bangkok. This is a small hotel with many of the staff have worked there for a long time. The chocolate chef has reportedly been serving chocolate to Bangkok forever!\u00a0 It really shows and you get this feeling of staff pride in their hotel.<\/p>\n

The staff comment that the team feels like family. We really enjoyed meeting the Sukhothai team who go out fo their way to chat to us. They have that genuine way of making you feel special. As a result, the Sukhothai Bangkok attracts a loyal following of returning guests.<\/p>\n

CONCLUSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Excellent value at this five-star luxury hotel which has long been considered to offer one of the most elegant stays in town.<\/p>\n

Travel and Leisure World’s Best Awards 2020 The Sukhothai Bangkok :<\/strong><\/p>\n

‘Staff at the Sukhothai are known for creating a familiar atmosphere of warmth and intimacy. The on-site restaurant Celadon serves expertly prepared Thai cuisine in an open-air building surrounded by water and lotus flowers’.<\/em><\/p>\n

It stays like this, that make me realise how much I love top-end luxury pampering and when it’s this affordable, why not Bangkok?<\/p>\n
