Today I thought I’d take you on a little DRIVE.<\/span>  <\/span><\/div>\n
L<\/span>et’s take Eastlink, then the new Peninsula link, <\/span>
one of my favourite trips…<\/span>

<\/span><\/div>\n
Sorry it’s a motorway and we can’t stop.<\/span>
I mean it’s called a freeway here, well actually it’s a tollway!<\/span>
What do you call these roads where you are in the world?<\/span>

<\/span>These roads have Australia’s longest sculpture park.<\/span>
 Do your roads have Public Art to enjoy along the way?<\/span>

<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

These sculptures are designed to be viewed on the move <\/span><\/span>
but <\/span><\/span>forgive me if the photos are a little blurred.<\/span>

The reason these are my favourite roads <\/span>
is not the actual roads, but where they lead to… <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Tree of Life Phil Price<\/b> <\/span><\/span>
The Tree of Life is a 10 metres high<\/span><\/span> wind-activated kinetic sculpture. <\/span>
The movement is gentle and rhythmic, echoing the rhythmic flow of branches in the wind<\/span><\/span>.<\/span> <\/span>
The large tree-like form makes reference to the eucalypt and evokes the natural beauty of the peninsula. <\/span>

<\/span>Oops sorry no, I don’t mean the hospital…<\/span><\/div>\n
I’ve just come off the freeway to get you closer to the cool art<\/span><\/div>\n
The leaves in the tree behind the car move<\/span><\/div>\n
It’s really clever, <\/span><\/div>\n
hmmm, maybe I should have taken a video?<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span> I love these signs on the side of the road, <\/span><\/div>\n

they are the names of local places, <\/span><\/div>\n
The Pines written twice when you drive past at 100 km\/hour (the maximum speed limit) appears to say HAPPINESS to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

PUBLIC ART STRATEGY <\/span>Emily Floyd<\/span><\/div>\n
Standing 13 metres high, the painted steel sculpture depicts a giant black bird ominously contemplating a worm. Drawing on aspects of the most famous outdoor sculptures, the piece describes Melbourne through its public art. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Below is the hotel where the lights are on, but no-one’s home<\/span><\/div>\n

HOTEL <\/span>Callum Morton <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Constructed of steel, concrete and glass, at 20 metres high Hotel is a large-scale model of a high-rise hotel. Positioned out of context, with no surrounding structures, the artwork appears out of place, <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
as if belonging to another time and place. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Hotel is effectively a giant <\/span>folly. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Its generic form looks like a number of places simultaneously, <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
as if its identity is unstable and still moving, but never quite of this world. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

DESIRING MACHINE <\/span>Simeon Nelson <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Desiring Machine lies as a fallen tree beside the roadway, putting new roots into the ground. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Its silhouetted filigree lies like a decaying piece of obsolete agricultural machine, <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
a relic of the human struggle to co-exist with nature. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Designed using a Victorian floral motif, the branch-like stems are mechanical <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
and perfectly symmetrical rendering them unnatural. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
This opposition of nature and machines describes <\/span>our desire to control nature. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Phew, you have no idea whizzing along <\/span>saying <\/span>‘<\/span>What’s that<\/i>?’ <\/span>
Now I can reply ‘it’s a silhouetted filigree<\/i>‘ (….if I remember!)<\/span>

<\/span>You can’t help but enjoy the journey when you have all these interesting things to admire out the window.<\/span><\/div>\n

Rex Australis Dean Colls <\/b><\/span><\/span>
Rex Australis explores the transience of existence and the passing greatness of the sheep industry in Australia. The sculpture made from <\/span><\/span>corten steel <\/span>measures 7 x 14 x 6 metres.<\/span><\/span>

<\/span>These roads lead to the Mornington Peninsula,<\/b><\/span>
 <\/b><\/span>just over an hours drive for us. <\/span><\/div>\n
As soon as we get beyond Frankston, we’re in holiday mode. <\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

I’m thinking ocean beaches, vineyards, fantastic walks, good food. The word is ESCAPE<\/b>… from city life.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span>So when we fly pass this space rocket of a sculpture on the road,<\/span>
It is exciting as to me it always signals blast off to my holiday.<\/span>
We no longer have to do battle with Frankston’s endless roundabouts and traffic lights…<\/span><\/p>\n

PANORAMA STATION Louise Paramor<\/b> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Panorama Station resembles a space-station, a rocket launch-pad or a futuristic engine.<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span>So keen as I am to get to the beach, <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
