 <\/span><\/span>Mum\u2019s Youth Hostel is open again<\/span><\/h3>\n

Never a dull moment!<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n
This week we’ve had two teachers from China <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
move in for a couple of weeks.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
They arrive bearing a wonderful gift of Chinese tea.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I can already tell we\u2019re going to have a great time\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
For a start they are fluent English speakers <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
which always makes things easier<\/span><\/span> for a good natter.<\/span><\/div>\n
I love exchanging information about our lives.<\/span><\/div>\n
With our previous students I often have to resort to <\/span><\/div>\n
my not-so-fine acting skills…<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Secondly these ladies are here with <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
sixteen of their hospitality students,<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
not staying in our house, in case you were wondering.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
There is a limit to my hospitality!<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
But before we know it <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
they are offering to help left, right and centre.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
This is a massive bingo moment, <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I do not expect our Home Stay guests to help in any way,<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
but I sure appreciate the offer.<\/span><\/span>

<\/a><\/div>\n

They tell me they teach hotel management <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Holy Moly<\/i>! <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Do you think they will notice <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
that I didn\u2019t iron the bottom sheet on the beds?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Answer: If they did, they won’t say anything.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
They are waaaay too polite.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>
<\/span><\/div>\n
They are an absolute delight to have in the house…<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Could they have a mop <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
as they have a little water from the shower on the bathroom floor?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Can they do the washing up?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I love them already!<\/span><\/span>

They are impressed with my husband who before dinner<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
emerges with a humungous pile of shirts from the laundry<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
to do his weekly ironing.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
‘He\u2019s just showing off<\/i>‘ I say. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I’m wondering why we need to have the entire<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
contents of the laundry scattered all over the family room.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
The very same room <\/span><\/span>
that I have spent the entire week tidying up?!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Men!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
We have a good laugh as I ask them <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
whether they iron for their husbands?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Apparently the answer is Yes!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u2018I have never ironed for any man\u2019<\/i>, <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I say proudly <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u2018That\u2019s a man\u2019s job<\/i>\u2019!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\u2018In Australia all men do their own ironing?\u2019 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
they ask <\/span><\/span>incredulously.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I can tell they are already impressed with Aussie life…<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Now how to answer this one? <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
DH replies he would like me to do his ironing <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
but I am really bad at ironing shirts!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Talk about having our dirty<\/strike> washing out in public\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I tell them years ago <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I perfected the technique of being really bad at ironing, <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
it\u2019s a great skill to have!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
They smile politely…<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
On the first day they return home with profiteroles <\/span><\/span>
their students have made at school that day.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
I\u2019m impressed and worried. <\/span><\/span>
Do you remember the Japanese Food blogger <\/span><\/span>
I had staying with me last year? <\/span><\/span>
The pressure to serve up every meal <\/span><\/span>
ready to be showcased to the world <\/span><\/span>
on a food blog <\/span><\/span>nearly killed me! <\/span>
We lived off baked beans for weeks after they left\u2026<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/span>
<\/span><\/div>\n
‘Do you teach cooking?’<\/i> I ask<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Thankfully the answer is No!<\/span><\/div>\n
Although anyone who has Chinese Facebook friends <\/span><\/span>
will know 98% of their Facebook posts are food photos. <\/span><\/span>
I can\u2019t entirely relax!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I\u2019m rather pleased that I have chosen to serve up <\/span><\/span>
a three bird roast <\/span><\/span>in honour of their arrival.<\/span><\/div>\n
After the first course our delightful guests offer to do the washing up!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
‘No need’<\/i> I say ‘we have a machine’<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
At the same time DH<\/span><\/span>
 reaches forward to collect their plates…<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
They smile, incredibly impressed. <\/span><\/span>
First ironing, now washing up… <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
He has gone from ironing hero, <\/span><\/span>
to mega dishwashing machine hero.<\/span><\/span>

<\/span><\/span>‘In Australia all men are washing up machines?<\/i><\/b>‘ they ask<\/span><\/span>
If you’re lucky I reply!<\/span><\/span>
