Women’s World Golf Championships, Singapore:<\/span><\/h5>\n

Hello, I\u2019m pleased you are joining me on day seven of Wren\u2019s Worldwide Wanderings <\/span><\/p>\n

\"\" G is for Golf Getaway to Singapore.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’m not a massive golf fan. I always thought it was rather a boring sport that old people played. You can throw a golf ball at me now!<\/p>\n

However, when I recently had the chance to attend the Women’s World Championships in Singapore, I was hardly going to say<\/p>\n

‘Nah, no thanks but can I just have the free Golf umbrella?’ <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, guess what? Heat aside, I really enjoyed it. The tournament was superbly organised, there was enough to do either walking and watching the players or at one of the HSBC golf activation sites. And I got to see 63 of the best women golfers in the world in action on the stunning location of Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It has been over 50 years ago since I first lived in Singapore, and it always feels like coming home. I guess I’m now old enough to give that frustrating sport another go…<\/span><\/p>\n

We visit Singapore several times a year, and with a weekend to spend we were looking forward to heading over to the man-made Sentosa Island to watch the Women\u2019s World Championship golf.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Sentosa Island:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

is a theme park-like destination in its own merits, connected by a large bridge, but you can also cable car or monorail onto the Island. Once there you will find plenty to do whether it is a trip to the beach or a visit to Universal Studios. There is something for everyone and all ages.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Sentosa Golf Club:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

Arriving at Sentosa <\/a>Golf Club feels like a step back in time to colonial days, which considering it was built in the 1970’s is not quite true!. It’s however very proper and considered one of the top 100 golf courses in the world. So it should be as today it is home to hosting the Women’s golfing superstars.<\/p>\n

The golf was sponsored by HSBC Bank who were generous with their merchandising for bank account holders and we collected umbrella\u2019s, hats, fans as well as trying out the various golfing competitions. <\/span><\/p>\n

It was hot even by Singapore’s standards. Walking around and spectators and players alike were shaded under large golf umbrellas to fend off the sun\u2019s intense heat.<\/span><\/p>\n

We followed a perfect group of golfers for our family: a Thai, a brit and an Aussie!\u00a0<\/span>The players were in an intense battle under the heat of the midday sun. We had high hopes of our Aussie player and of course I was always in the lookout for those who played a birdie haha.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

After walking several kilometres, I wandered off for a refreshing coconut ice cream served in the base of coconut and cool water. I\u00a0 <\/span>got chatting to a couple of women that worked in a Bank who played golf on their days off. They seemed relaxed and proud of Singapore’s developments, how this small country that continually punches above its weight has adapted to change, how it continues to retain its position as a world financial centre in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

We had a lovely day. Congratulations to\u00a0Sung Hyun Park from South Korea who clinched her sixth career victory on the LPGA Tour by two shots over our Minjee Lee from Australia. We thought she had it!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n

That evening we walked into the stunning Gardens by the Bay<\/a>. If you’ve not been, it really is a not to be missed garden experience that even non-gardeners will love. This whole Marina Bay area the epitomises the change in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Each evening there is a free sound and light show called garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay.<\/p>\n
