Christmas Aussie style is different…<\/span><\/div>\n
We don’t go in for a lot of festive palaver.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
All we need is a blow up Santa with a blue sky, <\/span><\/div>\n
and we’re <\/span>pretty much good to go!<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Santa at the Melbourne Star<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
It’s not that Australians don’t love Christmas<\/span><\/div>\n
It’s just that it comes awkwardly <\/span><\/div>\n
at the start <\/span>of our Summer holidays.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
And…<\/span><\/div>\n
Well, we have buckley’s chance of having a white Christmas.<\/span><\/div>\n
It’s just not quite the same <\/span><\/div>\n
for those of us used to Frosty the Snowman.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
I can’t stand anything red in the house…<\/span><\/div>\n
just in case we have a hot one.<\/span><\/div>\n
No, not even a poinsettia makes it across our doorstep!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

My red rule cuts out 80% of all my traditional Christmas decorations.<\/span><\/div>\n
The rest <\/span>you may remember <\/span>were impounded anyway <\/span><\/div>\n
by Australian customs <\/span>on our arrival in 2000 <\/span><\/div>\n
on account of them being a threat to national security<\/span><\/div>\n
having pine cones amongst them…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Leaving our Christmas decorations as mostly just a few Christmas cards<\/span><\/div>\n
around the place…<\/span><\/div>\n
Simple.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Then there is the Christmas tree issue<\/span><\/div>\n
We’ve had everything from fake,<\/span><\/div>\n
which I loved, as it avoids the wilting, needles dropping problem <\/span><\/div>\n
in the heat of summer<\/span><\/div>\n
but disgruntled murmurs of ‘it’s not a real tree’<\/i> were heard…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Through to last years fabulous sweet smelling real beauty,<\/span><\/div>\n
however we’re in the middle of the hay fever season…<\/span><\/div>\n
So when you have to resort to drugs to<\/span><\/div>\n
to quell the sneezing and streaming eyes<\/span><\/div>\n
caused by the tree<\/span><\/div>\n
it was a bit much…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
So this year I bought a new beauty<\/span><\/div>\n
what do you think?<\/span><\/div>\n
My family think it looks naff!<\/span><\/div>\n
It’s still in the box<\/span><\/div>\n
Perfect <\/span><\/div>\n
no need to pack away then.<\/span><\/div>\n

I thought, we could enjoy the Christmas lights inside the house<\/span><\/div>\n
as light shows are big in Melbourne this year.<\/span><\/div>\n
Although we do have to wait until it gets dark at 9pm.<\/span><\/div>\n
Just look at what the City of Melbourne <\/span><\/div>\n
are doing to the Town Hall!<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Melbourne City Council has boldly put on quite a display,<\/span><\/div>\n
which only slightly eclipses my own modest version at home.<\/span><\/div>\n
Their Christmas projections illuminate our Melbourne Town Hall <\/span><\/div>\n
with a free light show every night.<\/span><\/div>\n
I loved it!<\/span><\/div>\n

So we’re heading off to the beach for Christmas and New Year<\/span><\/div>\n
Well probably just toss a few seashells on the table.<\/span><\/div>\n
We are having turkey you’ll be pleased to know.<\/span><\/div>\n
Otherwise it wouldn’t feel like Christmas!<\/span><\/div>\n
