It’s our Australia Day weekend<\/span><\/div>\n
where we celebrate our National Day.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
We managed to winkle our American guests<\/span><\/div>\n
away from Melbourne Park tennis for a quick trip <\/span><\/div>\n
to the Mornington Peninsula<\/span><\/div>\n
and some well deserved rest and relaxation.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
A gentle sea breeze was perfect for our <\/span><\/div>\n
impromptu flag raising ceremony<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n
Which unlike at Parliament House, <\/span><\/div>\n
involved Mr Wren <\/span>with a pair of pliers, <\/span><\/div>\n
as the salt air had wedged the clips shut!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
The next thing we do is kick off our shoes <\/span><\/div>\n
and head to the water<\/span><\/div>\n
for some ocean therapy…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
We did have a laugh at the ‘lost in translation<\/i>‘ moment <\/span><\/div>\n
hearing shoes<\/span> called “thongs.”<\/span><\/div>\n
Flip flops to me…<\/span><\/div>\n
‘What the…?’<\/i> cry the Americans<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
The surfers in our group had driven ahead<\/span><\/div>\n
but had been disappointed not to catch any good waves<\/span><\/div>\n
only a good dunkin’!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Still the wild waters make for some good photos<\/span><\/div>\n
Here is our favourite, Rye ocean beach.<\/span>
Gotta love it down here,<\/span>
it may be the busiest weekend of the year<\/span>
but we can still have the beach to ourselves…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
We love the fact also that on the ‘Pen’<\/span><\/div>\n
 we can take the option to head for the calmer bay beaches.<\/span><\/div>\n
The Crazy Poodle aways loves a trip to Blairgowrie dog beach<\/span><\/div>\n
where he happily can run off lead chasing flies.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Now of course no Australia Day is complete without a barbecue<\/span><\/div>\n
We cook everything on the BBQ<\/span><\/div>\n
even a breakfast…<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Although often when we are at the beach <\/span><\/div>\n
we just eat out!<\/span><\/div>\n
Here is my favourite breakfast at the moment:<\/span><\/div>\n
smashed avocados on muffin with poached egg, <\/span>
feta cheese <\/span>and sun dried tomatoes.<\/span>
Just don’t tell Weighwatchers…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
After brunch and various coffees, <\/span>we have work to do.<\/span><\/div>\n
The new deck needs oiling…<\/span><\/div>\n
Aussies love their outdoor entertaining<\/span><\/div>\n
and we’re very happy with the new deck!<\/span>
A not-so-quick trip to Bunnings <\/span>
(our hardware store,<\/span>
 where everyone it seems has holiday jobs to complete) <\/span> <\/span>
and a quick slip, slap, slop of sunscreen & hats<\/span>
we’re out there, painting away…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Finally it’s time to head into Rye for the foreshore festivities.<\/span>
Every town has something on offer <\/span>
there are Fun Runs, Australia Day parades and the like.<\/span><\/div>\n
Rye has a big stage and a mural for the kids to paint<\/span>

<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n


<\/span>We come across<\/span> a classic car rally.<\/span>
We used to own a Fiat 500 like that first car – classic!<\/span><\/div>\n

We order a gelato and sit looking out to Port Phillip Bay<\/span><\/div>\n
tonight there will be fireworks.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We can’t stay long <\/span>
as we’re heading back to Melbourne for, yes you’ve guessed it,<\/span>
a barbecue.<\/span>

<\/span>Before we know it the weekend is over,<\/span><\/div>\n
all that is left is trying to remove the temporary Aussie Flag <\/span>
tattoos <\/span>from all over the place!<\/span>

<\/span><\/p>\n
<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>We love our flag on Australia Day!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
