Andy Murray at Margaret Court, Asian Cup at Rectangular Stadium<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
By day we’ve been enjoying the Grand Slam tennis at Melbourne Park, <\/span><\/div>\n
cheering on our very own WTA Pro Tennis Player,<\/span><\/div>\n
and by night, we’ve been volunteering at the Asian Cup, <\/span><\/div>\n
Australia’s biggest ever football tournament<\/span><\/div>\n
 ‘<\/span>Go Soccerroos – Champions of Asia<\/i>‘!<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Your Little Wren has a very<\/i> important role<\/span><\/div>\n
in securing Aussie Open on court tennis success.<\/span><\/div>\n
I’m in charge of toast and Tim Tams!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Gluten free and organic toast of course<\/span><\/div>\n
we’re talking elite athletes here… <\/span><\/div>\n
and Tim Tams (Aussie chocolate biscuits) <\/span><\/div>\n
for the team celebration (ie the rest of us!).<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
You know right, that behind every successful athlete <\/span><\/div>\n
is a great family, a fantastic coach<\/span><\/div>\n
 and the lady with the Tim Tams! <\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
It’s been seven years since we started housing<\/span> at the Open.<\/span><\/div>\n
Originally this was an official program offered by Tennis Australia.<\/span><\/div>\n
We were interviewed, our house inspected and before we knew it<\/span><\/div>\n
we were hosting two Eastern European players.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
In recent years the housing program has been disbanded.<\/span><\/div>\n
However we’re lucky o<\/span>ur contacts with players continue informally<\/span>. <\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
For the past five years we’ve welcomed <\/span>team Falconi to stay.<\/span><\/div>\n
Irina Falconi, former world No 73 is the American tennis player <\/span><\/div>\n
who <\/span>makes our Aussie Open experience so special.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I guess housing is not for those who like <\/span>certainty<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n
Our days are unpredictable, exciting<\/span><\/div>\n
a<\/span>nd totally revolve around tennis matches.<\/span><\/div>\n
There is the <\/span>exhilaration and excitement after a win<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
and the opposite after a loss.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Here she talks about having very little notice of playing <\/span><\/div>\n
in the Doubles tournament.<\/span><\/div>\n
I had an appointment in town that day.<\/span><\/div>\n
 By the time <\/span>I came out, <\/span><\/div>\n
the match had been scheduled, played and finished!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
It is the only Aussie Open Grand Slam match in five years <\/span><\/div>\n
that I have not been there cheering <\/span><\/div>\n
“lovely” <\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
at every forehand winner!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Or take the second round singles match.<\/span><\/div>\n
The tournament schedule is released early evening the night before.<\/span><\/div>\n
We can see Irina is playing fourth match on Court 8<\/span><\/div>\n
after a men’s singles and two men’s doubles matches.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
It’s tight timing because I’m volunteering at the Asian Cup<\/span><\/div>\n
It’s our last Melbourne match and the Quarter final.<\/span><\/div>\n
 The football starts at 6.30pm and I’m on duty from 3.30pm.<\/span><\/div>\n
I agree with my Manager I can run across the road <\/span>to watch <\/span><\/div>\n
as soon as the Asian Cup kicks off…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Yes only in Melbourne can we have two world events on <\/span><\/div>\n
opposite sides of the road…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
The only problem is that the tennis matches on Court 8 go really quickly.<\/span><\/div>\n
I get a text from my son<\/span><\/div>\n
“She’s warming up”<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
It’s 4.55pm…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
There I am in my Orange sunshine shorts <\/span><\/div>\n
greeting <\/span>Korea Republic and Uzbekistan <\/span><\/div>\n
fans arriving for the match…<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Yes I have 30,000 soccer fans heading my way <\/span><\/div>\n
and I need to go!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
I have committed to my volunteering role and <\/span><\/div>\n
there is no way I am going to desert my position<\/span><\/div>\n
BUT … this is a monumental clash of priorities.<\/span><\/div>\n
Only in Melbourne could two world sporting events collide…<\/span><\/div>\n

Luckily I had a very understanding Asian Cup boss…<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n

I made it and cheered “lovely shot Irina” <\/i>through out<\/span><\/div>\n
but unfortunately Madison Brengle <\/span><\/div>\n
had more lovely shots on that day…<\/span><\/div>\n
This is the world of tennis.<\/span><\/div>\n

I leg it back to the soccer.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
