I haven’t been on the swings with my parents<\/span><\/div>\n
for ummm…quite a few years!<\/span><\/div>\n

Here we are enjoying the Spring sunshine at <\/span><\/div>\n
Buscot Park<\/a> in Oxfordshire.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

Reliving my youth at Lady Faringdon’s swinging garden<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
The <\/span>National Trust<\/a> call Buscot Park <\/span><\/div>\n
‘one of Oxfordshire’s best kept secrets’<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n
and on a Tuesday afternoon it is easy to see why.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
We were very happy to have the gardens all to ourselves!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Buscot House built 1780-1783<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
Just look at this Neo-classical mansion that Lord Faringdon <\/span><\/div>\n
and his family look after on behalf of the National Trust.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
It’s not a bad little pad, <\/span><\/div>\n
it’s got all mod cons, a whole host of national treasures,<\/span><\/div>\n
and a pretty blue swimming pool.<\/span><\/div>\n
 I hope it’s heated, <\/span>otherwise you might need to throw me that life buoy<\/span><\/div>\n
pretty quickly.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Swimming pool-pavilion and frescoes<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
Anyway despite lingering on the doorstep<\/span><\/div>\n
awaiting Lady Faringdon to rush out and welcome us in for afternoon tea<\/span><\/div>\n
 – didn’t she know I’d come all the way from Australia for this? <\/span><\/div>\n
 We carried on to explore further …<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
The house is open to the public Wednesday – Sunday from April 1st.<\/span><\/div>\n
Although check the schedule as there are some weekends when <\/span><\/div>\n
Milord<\/i> obviously wants to keep the riff-raff out…<\/span><\/div>\n
and you will find the gates firmly shut!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
In full bloom, spring is a lovely time to visit<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
The gardens are delightful at this time of year,<\/span><\/div>\n
we just loved seeing all the apple and cherry blossom in full bloom.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
There are even a few souvenirs from trips abroad<\/span><\/div>\n
We checked out the rather <\/span>incongruous Chinese warriors.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Life size warriors protect the grounds<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
Now don’t get me wrong, <\/span><\/div>\n
your Little Wren <\/span>has been to Xian, China <\/span><\/div>\n
and brought back her own life size warrior,<\/span><\/div>\n
 we call him Terry as in Terracotta warrior.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Faringdon’s have seventeen in their garden<\/span><\/div>\n
like you do, <\/span>when you have 62 acres of parkland and garden to fill.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
 They have been painted to protect them from the elements<\/span><\/div>\n
which is a shame as the original terracotta is much nicer.<\/span><\/div>\n
These poor chaps look cold and flaky…<\/span><\/div>\n
But then I can’t talk as our Terry lives indoors with us!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Although looking at the size of Buscot House,  <\/span><\/div>\n
they could probably squeeze them in somewhere…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Anyway moving on, in case I am asked to leave<\/span><\/div>\n
before showing you the wonderful Harold Peto water garden.<\/span><\/div>\n

The famous Italianate water gardens<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
Isn’t it wonderful?<\/span>
Steps lead you down away from the house to the lake.<\/span><\/div>\n
You’ll not be bored at Buscot,<\/span><\/div>\n
even a dead tree looks spectacular against the pleasure grounds.<\/span><\/div>\n

Hats off to the gardener who decided to plant to cheery red tulips<\/span><\/div>\n
looking glorious in their ornate urns.<\/span><\/div>\n

Red tulips add a splash of colour<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
At every twist and turn there is something eye catching;<\/span><\/div>\n
sculptures, murals, ponds..<\/span>.even a whalebone <\/span><\/div>\n
and quite possibly the largest obelisk in Britain.<\/span>
I leave you to work out whether this is wonderful <\/span>
or just a huge big, <\/span>well I’ll just use the word obelisk shall I?<\/span><\/div>\n
