There were Alices everywhere…<\/span><\/div>\n

150 to be precise, all there to celebrate ‘Alice’s Day’<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

and I am banned from photographing every gorgeous young Alice!<\/div>\n

Alice’s Day is an annual Oxford event <\/div>\n
of Mad Hatters tea parties, croquet, story telling and workshops <\/div>\n
celebrating Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, which was dreamt up on a summers day in Oxford in 1862.<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
We were actually not in Oxford for Alice, but to end the debate brought on by daughter No 1’s boyfriend who knows Cambridge well <\/span>over <\/span>which is better Oxford or Cambridge?<\/span><\/div>\n

I am biased, having grown up living close to Oxford.<\/span><\/div>\n
Of course Oxford is better than Cambridge, it’s certainly better than Swindon!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Well… we actually lived closer to Swindon Town.<\/span><\/div>\n
But out of the UK no one has ever heard of Swindon, <\/span><\/div>\n
so I am teased by Mr Wren for telling everyone I come from near Oxford.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
In the UK, the concrete kingdom of Swindon is known for it’s<\/span><\/div>\n
railway and manufacturing, and nothing more exciting than the <\/span><\/div>\n
Magic Roundabout, a roundabout with six mini-roundabouts in it.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
So let’s just say Swindon is the rather unglamourous, <\/span><\/div>\n
ugly poor relation to Oxford without the history, <\/span><\/div>\n
the University connections, or the gorgeous buildings of Oxford.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

And so, public disclaimer, that is why I say we lived near Oxford!<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Now with Daughter No 1 and her boyfriend<\/div>\n
 working for a charity based outside Cambridge<\/div>\n
<\/span><\/div>\n
we have two hours, with no particular plan but to impress <\/span><\/div>\n
and show off the delights of Oxford. <\/span><\/div>\n

Thankfully slightly cooler than the heatwave that swept the country earlier in the week, <\/span>and we join the crowds, speaking many tongues,<\/span><\/div>\n
  wandering in this beautiful city.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/i><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

It’s hard not to be impressed by either Oxford or Cambridge<\/span><\/div>\n

both Oxford and Cambridge are gorgeous <\/span><\/div>\n
and I think I’ll leave it here for today.<\/span><\/div>\n
