This was the Happy Birthday message sent to me <\/div>\n<\/div>\n

by one of the major hotel chains in March which I rather liked! <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n
I had no idea that my rich adventures of travel in 2015<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
would include Vanuatu, <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
a tropical South Pacific Island, <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
which would be hit by a Tropical Cyclone <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
5 days after my birthday.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Cyclone Pam caused the worst natural disaster in Vanuatu’s history.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
\n
My husband and son needed a holiday,<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Vanuatu needed the tourists to return.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Win – Win!<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
You need to be in the mood for a tropical paradise<\/span><\/div>\n
 it\u2019s hard work!<\/span><\/div>\n
Especially on an Island <\/span><\/div>\n
still mopping up <\/span><\/div>\n
from the after affects from one of the worst cyclones on record…<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

You see when I arrived in Vanuatu straight from my city living,<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
and errmmmm I\u2019ve had a few cities in the past three months<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Melbourne – Singapore – Paris – Brussels – London <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
ok I can tell you\u2019re not at all sympathetic!<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
but it\u2019s a problem,<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I\u2019m wired all wrong. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n
I\u2019m wired for immediacy, <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
to be on high alert, <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
I get off the plane still clutching my anti-scamming purse close by <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
just in case someone tries to pinch my credit cards…<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
It takes a while winding down so that you don\u2019t get annoyed<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
 when you have no hot water or the Internet doesn\u2019t work\u2026<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n

<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Or not to leap out of bed with a loud \u2018Tut and a \u2018Oh what now\u2019<\/i>, <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
in response to the cheery knock on the door at 9.15am <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
as a beaming lady in the plentiful hibiscus frock<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
stands at the door, mop in hand calling out sweetly <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u201chousekeeping\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/i>
<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n

You have to slow down, <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
you have to re program yourself<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
You have to find your sense of humour and your inner zen.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
You need to get into a new time zone<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n
They call it Vanuatu time.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
And once you find it, you’ll love it<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
and it will be so very hard to leave…<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
